How it started

Testing the Waters

At 11:04 pm, our friend Grace sent GM a message on Facebook to see if he might be interested in getting to know someone.

First Date

January 24, 2016

Our first date was a movie and a scavenger hunt planned by our friends. Gene brought Christa flowers and was floored - instant 😍. She drove them to Centralia with a bag of curated treats. They watched a sad movie that gave them lots to talk about around family, values, and loss. They walked for hours, stopping into antique stores and eventually going back for dinner. Gene talked a big pool game and Christa absolutely devastated him. He learned very quickly that Christa is not one to give into charm or fast talking.

GM went to the house Christa grew up in for Easter dinner, meeting some of her family and family friends for the first time.

March 27, 2016

Our First Trip

April 2 - 6, 2016

Christa and GM take their first trip together, renting a tiny house on a farm on Orcas Island. They have gone back for one of their birthdays every year except 2020, and in 2021 they went in August when they felt safer about it.

First Road Trip

September 2016

GM really wanted to share where he grew up with Christa. They took off on an adventurous road trip to various places in California, and were hosted by Christa's good friend Lindsay. On the way down, they booked a campsite that turned out to be between the back side of a Home Depot and the freeway in Eugene. They traveled to Oakland, San Jose, Los Gatos, and Dunnigan. On the way up they camped in a campground in Dunnigan which fairly represented the small town. They have been back to California together three more times; when GM's dad passed in 2019, and twice when he was there for work (2021, 2023).

Moving in Together

Christa and GM move into a house together with their beloved friends Rebecca and Adam.

Bought a Home

Christa and GM buy a small, old home together in Olympia (and obvs live happily ever after). They built fences, french drains, patios, flower beds, insulated the attic, had the knob and tube electrical replaced, had the underside of the house insulated, tore out carpets, painted, built shelving, gave COVID haircuts, eat outside when they can . . . all the sorts of things a couple does to make their house a home.
